Korea-Japan 13 Day 12 Nights Trip Cost

I recently had quite an awesome trip to Korea and Japan, spending around 7 days in each country in January 2015. The goal was actually to experience the winter season and hopefully snowfall but that didn't happen. Nonetheless it was a great trip, with us trying skiing for the first time, visiting 3 theme parks and many more! Here's a breakdown of my trip cost and I'll post reviews of the different places I visited a little later.

I used Thai Airways because they were the only airlines that allowed open jaw tickets to be booked with their promotion. This allowed us to enter Seoul and leave from Japan. Also, I used promotion codes for my hotels but cause I'm rather busy lately to post the promo codes when I was booking they have expired by now. Effectively, I had 7% off on expedia and I also used a citibank credit card which gave x15 points. For Otel,  it was the cheapest already and I had a 9% promo code from their Facebook page.

I'll be posting reviews of some of the places I visited during my trip real soon. Also, a new set of promo codes that are still valid :D

UOB Travel Insurance

Always buy travel insurance when you travel. You never know when some mishaps will happen or if you're taking budget airlines like I always do, you never know when you'll face a long delay. Maybe I have been lucky because I have yet to face a long delay whilst travelling on budget airlines yet. Anyways, here's a promotion for UOB travel insurance. I find their service and response for their insurance application rather fast. NTUC Travel Insurance Promo 20% Off

I find it rare that NTUC Income has travel insurance promotion. So when they have it you have to act quick and purchase your travel insurance. They are running a 20% off their travel insurance premium if you use their mobile application to make your purchase. Valid till 11 April 2014. Always purchase travel insurance as you never know when you might need it.

Checking Your Credit Card Rates

So, I was always wondering if I could calculate exactly how much my credit card will charge me if I were to make a transaction in another currency. I actually found out how. You have to go to your credit card type company (Visa, Mastercard, American Express etc) and find out what the rate is for the day.

Here's the link to Visa's exchange rate calculator that will give you the exact rate you will be paying. For Singapore, I only tried with DBS cards and the bank fee is 0%. Do give this a try and you might find it easier to see which site regardless of country has a better deal for your purchase.

I was searching for a discount code for my upcoming trip to Bangkok later this month (April) and found this website that could give me 15% discount off for Amari Watergate hotel. This discount code should work for many other hotels too, but the only catch is you have to use their app to make the purchase.

Remember to download the app on your mobile device as it will give you a better deal. Also, the price quoted is in British Pounds which doesn't really matter as it is still cheaper overall. This website is legit as I receive confirmation from the hotel itself that they received the booking.

So a bit on what I paid. I booked Amari Watergate hotel for 3 nights at £132.26 after discount, this is equivalent to S$277.94 or S$92.65 per night. I tried finding a better price else where like hotels.com, expedia.com.sg, hotelclub.com and many more but it all added up to around S$340 and even with a 10% discount (the max I could find) it will be around S$310.

Fuji Japanese Restaurant

This is one of the restaurants that I always visit whenever I visit Thailand. Though it's not the very best Japanese food you can have, the food served are quite good and cheap too. They have many branches all around Thailand and it's quite difficult to not find one in Bangkok. Upcoming Trip to Bangkok

So I have been thinking of travelling to Bangkok this coming December and thought that I will not be able to find a good deal. And amazingly I did find one. Though it is not the cheapest I think I can get to go Bangkok but it is considered quite cheap cause it's December. So here are the details of my trip for my trip to Bangkok for 6 days 5 night from 15 December to 20 December 2013:

All price is for 2 pax.

Flight: $372.53 + $40 (baggage)
Hotel: $483.43
Total: $895.96

Per Person: $447.98

Flight by Jetstar $372.53 for the earliest flight out of Singapore (3K511) and latest flight back from Bangkok (3K514). Oh and I also added $40 for baggage for 25kg each way. I used the Jetstar Price Beat Guarantee against Tiger Air which had a cheaper price, and I got my flight for 10% cheaper than Tiger Air.

My hotel was booked through zuji.com.sg and it cost me $483.43. The price I got was after applying a 12% discount code which I mention in my previous post. I used zuji.com.sg Top Secret hotel deal which was already very cheap considering I got Amari Watergate and applied the discount code (SGZUJI12) to it, usual price without the Top Secret hotel deal was around $661.87, with the Top Secret deal is $549.35. I saved roughly $66 by applying the discount code.
